A'ja Wilson, a former South Carolina women's basketball player, won the ESPY award for Best WNBA Player.

Wilson was also nominated for Best Female Athlete and as part of the Las Vegas Aces for Best Team 

In 2022, Wilson won the league's MVP and Defensive Player of the Year awards, leading the Aces to their first WNBA championship 

Wilson received a shoutout from LeBron James for her ESPY win and her contributions to women's basketball 

In 2023, Wilson continues to dominate and is a team captain for the WNBA All-Star game for the second consecutive year 

She is the first former South Carolina player to earn five All-Star selections 

Wilson has led the Aces to a league-best 18-2 record midway through the season, averaging 19.5 points, 9.2 rebounds, and 2.2 blocks 

In college, Wilson led South Carolina to their first national championship in 2017 and was a three-time consensus first-team All-American 

Wilson holds several program career records for points, free throws made, and blocks, as well as numerous single-game and season records 

In 2021, Wilson was honored with a statue on South Carolina's campus, making her the only woman and one of two athletes to have a statue there.
